Selah viee
Artist Bio: Angelica Orquin, also known as ‘Selah viee,’ is a Filipino ‘New Contemporary’ artist known for child-like portraits that depict visual storytelling. Her artist name is derived from ‘c’est la vie,’ which translates to “This is life”, which symbolizes her pursuit of life’s experiences as the inspiration for her craft.
The artist created “Selah viee” as a character who she considers the “self”, she believes that Selah viee is “everyone” to be specific “the inner selves” of each viewer. Each of her paintings is intentionally created in a whimsical and fairytale-like setting, giving a euphoric theme where the message conveyed is a real-life situation and insight. Her purpose is to inform and convey self-awareness and realizations.
Selah viee is the visual representation of her perspective of psychological mirroring, where the purpose is to connect with the viewer’s perspective and reflection on her paintings. She believes that creating a painting is like writing a fairytale or a bedtime story where the main character is the viewer as well.
Selah’s paintings and street art combine urban upbringing, and kawaii culture, exploring human nature and themes such as perspective, psychology, and adventure through varied color combinations.
