About the work:
This series was whispering to my mind for a while now, and since I’m working on that issue myself, I thought it was time to get into it. As you can imagine, vulnerability is the main focus: how ducking hard is it to expose ourselves? Jeez. I’m kinda obsessing over it. I love the idea of being vulnerable and fragile but come on, actually doing it is just terrible and hard and requires a lot of trust, love and who knows what else. So, that’s what I’m trying to say with this bunch of artworks. Opening up to others is tough, but good if not necessary. So saddle up, y’all! In the end it’ll make you feel better…they say.
Skulls are positive here, they represent the ability of being exposed and so are mushrooms, read them as if they were flowers, something beautiful is going around if they’re growing. Multiple eyes, on the other hand, say someone is trying to have too much control. You can close a couple of those, can’t you? You don’t really need all of them. Mouths want to talk. To say what’s going on behind the curtains. Let them! Aren’t you tired of keeping ’em shut?
I’m also working on giving the whites an emotional meaning, using them mostly on the “vulnerable parts” to both guide your eyes and tell you a story, darkening everything else to make them pop up. I’m enjoying so much studying where to place them and why (a bit less when it comes to remembering that I actually have to leave them white and not going too dark). If you look carefully you can find the paths I created in these two firsts pieces of this new collection.-
Artist Bio: “I’m Sara, a full-time artist based in Italy. Even tho I studied and did a lot of different jobs during the past years, art was always there. I have been drawing since I can remember, but it came a moment when I felt the need to spend more time creating than I was doing. It was 2019 when I decided to quit my job and dedicate more time as possible to improve my drawing skills. That led me here, exploring the ups and downs and the excitement of owning a small business. I’m very much into the dark and surreal, animals are my subjects and I’m moved by emotions, which I’m learning to put on paper to explore, live and understand them as deeply as possible.”
