Description
Poem for the painting:
Deep in the dawn,
While the sun was rising,
The mist was lifting,
And the night was waning,
A fisherman sat and gazed at the sea,
Heavy eyes and heavy feet,
He clutched his coat and shivered on the boat,
Adjusting his cap, he set toward home,
Away from the fish and away from the sea,
To sleep and to catch,
What rest he could,
Before the moon awoke,
And lightly spoke,
Secret words,
To awake all fish,
And send them rushing and racing,
Into his net and ready for catching.
